Each student must bring their Holocaust book to class with them daily beginning April 11th—the first day of the 4th quarter. They will have three full weeks to read their book. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THEIR REGULARLY REQUIRED PR BOOK REQUIREMENT. Lesson Plans for March 28-April 1 WOW –none SOW— none AOW—none Focus--Intro to Holocaust Unit Monday: finish quarterly assessments and book talks Tuesday: Holocaust KWL board meetings; Final submission of Book picks (after teacher book talks and revisions to first list) Wednesday: Documentary Special Presentation: Oprah and Elie Wiesel At Auschwitz Death Camp" takes place nearly 61 years after Wiesel left the concentration camp. He returned to the area to see what remains, to contemplate what it means to be a returning survivor and to determine how he and other activists can keep the memory of the Holocaust alive. Wiesel was only 15 years old when he and his entire family were sent to Auschwitz during the Holocaust, which took the lives of more than six million Jews. RDW, viewing guide (handout) Thursday-Friday: movie, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas; Through the lens of an eight-year-old boy largely shielded from the reality of World War II, we witness a forbidden friendship that forms between Bruno, the son of Nazi commandant, and Schmuel, a Jewish boy held captive in a concentration camp. Though the two are separated physically by a barbed wire fence, their lives become inescapably intertwined. The imagined story of Bruno and Shmuel sheds light on the brutality, senselessness and devastating consequences of war from an unusual point of view. Together, their tragic journey helps recall the millions of innocent victims of the Holocaust. Monday after break:
