The second PR requirement this quarter must be a Holocaust book. Students may provide their own book with teacher approval, or a Holocaust book will be assigned to them. A parent letter will be sent home on Monday (March 2) regarding our unit on the Holocaust.

Skills and content for MARCH 2-6 · Focus: Writing an Argument with a claim, cited evidence, commentary, counterclaim, and rebuttal using writing skills (SOWs) learned in class. This week students are conferencing with the teacher about their writing and revising the first draft of their essay. A final draft is due Friday and will count as a test grade. · SOW – students will demonstrate application and incorporation of the weekly writing skills (SOWs) into their argument essays: CONCLUDING & INTERRUPTING COMMAS, CONNOTATION, DENNOTATION, ELLIPSIS, DASH, PARENTHETICAL & IN-TEXT CITATION, DIRECT & IN-DIRECT QUOTING. Monday-Friday: we will be in the computer lab every day this week conferencing, revising, and polishing final drafts of our argument essays on the penny debate. Students have three objectives to complete in the computer lab: 1. Complete the Holocaust web quest and turn in the map activity. The purpose is to build prior knowledge of the Holocaust, the genre for our next required reading assignment. 4. Complete the Holocaust Book Pick: complete and turn in the handout, listing top 7 book selections in order of personal preference 5. Oprah video (45 min): write an extra credit RDW summarizing the video in third person, using and highlighting connotative language. Due Friday: 1. Final draft of Argument essay, minimum of four paragraphs. All requirements should be highlighted in the final draft with a scoring rubric attached. This will count as a test grade. 2. Web quest map activity 3. Holocaust Book Pick of top seven choices 4. Extra Credit RDW, summarizing the Oprah video, in third person, using an highlighting connotative language. 5.
