Name Lexie G. Title: Looking For Alaska Author: John Green Genre: Young adult fiction Page Count:223 I thought Looking for Alaska was a great novel. John Green did a god job of telling the story of Miles Halter and how his life went from safe and uneventful to risky and exciting. The writing was well done and the ending was unexpected and interesting. Out of five stars, I would rate this book a four and a half out of five. I would recommend Looking for Alaska to anyone who enjoys fiction, humor, mystery, and a bit of romance. Name Lexie G. Comment Title: The Forest of Hands and Teeth Author: Carrie Ryan Genre: Fantasy, romance, horror Page Count: 308 My opinion of this book was not the best. I did enjoy the use of imagery, similes, and metaphors. Most of the sentences were very descriptive and well-written. The author also did a good job of creating a fantasy world and applying it throughout the story. However, The story itself was very slow paced, which can be less entertaining for the reader. A lot of times i found myself not being not interested while reading because many points were repeated and exaggerated. I am also not a big fan of romance novels, which isn't very helpful because romance appears to be a large part of the story. My rating out of 5 stars for this novel would be 2 and a half. I recommend this book to people who are fans of romance and fantasy. Name Mary P. Comment Title: Sweep- Book of Shadows Author: Cate Tiernan Genre: Super Natural Page count: 176 This book is about a girl named Morgan who thought she was a normal 17 year old but one day a new kid came to school and changed her life. Morgan, her friends, and the new kid, Cal, started to do Wicca(witchcraft). Cal is a witch who helps guide Morgan to her destiny. Name Mary P. Comment Title: Sweep~ Blood Witch Author: Cate Tiernan Genre: Young adult, Fantasy, Novel. Page Count:202 Morgan, the protagonist, and Cal, the second main character, have been together for some time. Morgan absorbs too much power at circles, A form of collecting energy in Wicca or Pagan Witchcraft. Each time she absorbs too much energy, she has to be grounded. Grounded means that she has to lay in the fetal position and release her excess energy. Later in the book, she figures out that her thought to be parents have been lying to her and that they aren't her real parents. Her parents were blood witches coming from the different clans. This means that Morgan would have to be a blood witch and that's why she absorbs too much energy. Her real mother and father was murdered by another witch. Her real parents were trapped in a barn by a spell that couldn't be broken from the inside, where her parents were. After her parents got locked in the barn, the barn was burned and they died in the fire. Before all of this happened, her real parents put her up for adoption. The book doesn't state anything else about what her parents did, or why they were killed, but I can't wait to find out. Because this book is amazing and interesting to me, I give this book a 5 out of 5 star rating. This book has giving me multiple inspirations on Wicca. Name Autumn K. Title: Is it night or Day? Title: Sophomores and Other Oxymorons Author: David Lubar Sophomores and Other Oxymorons, by David Lubar, was a great read. In this book, the main character Scott Hudson tries to navigate his sophomore year. He is confronted by an annoying, scared freshman named Jeremy, a biology class that sets him over the edge, and a literature teacher that seems to have a particular hatred for Scott. My personal rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars. Amazon Description: "Scott Hudson has somehow managed to survive Freshman year. But with a new baby brother in the house and a whole host of adventures awaiting him at school, Sophomore year promises to be anything but boring. An honest and funny follow-up to the popular Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie, award-winning author David Lubar pens a tale that perfectly captures the ridiculous, tumultuous, and sometimes heartbreaking truths about high school." Name Kinley D. Comment I read the book cupcake queen and I thought it was a good book. the main characters name is Penelope. She moves to a new town with her mom, and her mom owns a bakery/cupcake store named "the cupcake queen". I guess that's where they got the name from on the book title. Penelope is 13 years old she meets her new best friend at a birthday party that she had to deliver cupcakes to with her mom. I would rate this book a 7-10 because there is not a lot of mystery or action in it. its mostly drama and about teenage life. Name Angela S. Comment An Ember in the Ashes By: Sabaa Tahir When trying a new author it's not easy geting used to their writing style. Its even hard then you fall in love with their style then realize that the book you read we their first book ever so you can't read anthing else by them... Till their next book. As like last review I will explaining what I liked in 3 catalogues, plot, charaters, ending. Characters Like in the book alligent, it swiches perspective this allows us to understand both our main characters. They being a 15 year old girl laia who is part of a race that is being treated like slaves in a country that was once theirs. The other being a 16 year old boy, elias, who is being trained to join the ranks of a very high position in the empire, which he was 'born for'. Note he is not part of Laia's race. Plot As I said earlier we have a empire that took over a race and are know treating them as slaves so we have the classic resistance about. Laia's brother is presumed to be a part of it, causing the rid on their home..... Saing more spoils it.. So things I real like was the training for position is filled with blood and betray to becoming a mask, one who dose not feel, and how it make soldiers up to be mask to the point they have a mask molded to their race is cool the fights are very interactive filled with psychological pain that makes elias very human which is nice to see it a main character.... The plot is quest orented they both have a goal they are trying to reach. Ending Ending you say what ending its just the lead to the next book... Mahhhhh.. Hey be happy I have to wait a year for the next book.. But it was a satisfying ending with escape. Hope you try it and enjoy it. Cool fact ---I picked it up only because Marie lu , the author of legend, write a review that is on the back. Name Courtney Z. Comment Before I Die By: Jenny Downham Fiction 327 4 out of 5 The novel Before I Die is an amazing book. This girl has known since age 12 that she would die young. She was diagnosed with leukemia and could care less about dying until she finds out just how young she is going to die. She makes a list of crazy things she wants to do before she dies. Not knowing completing this list would turn her life around, she decides she doesn't want to die. I loved this book from beginning to end and finished it in only three days. I would recommend this book to everyone I know (mainly girls) because it was so good and had so many plot twists. The only problem was the ending. I believed the book ended kind of suddenly, but to anyone who reads this book they would know why. |
